Booking a Flight for an Unaccompanied Minor: Some Tips

The following is important information to know when booking a ticket with Emirates Airlines as an unaccompanied minor:

Make sure your child is emotionally and mentally prepared – Make sure your youngster is ready on the inside before allowing them to travel out on their own; some kids are mature enough at 8, while others won’t be until they’re 16. In addition, there are restrictions in the form of alternatives, delays, or cancellations that must be managed.

Don’t complicate things with the flying plan! – Try to book nonstop flights if at all possible. This will make it easy for the child to travel. Spend your money on early morning flights in case of delays, diversions, or rebooking that would otherwise need an overnight stay but may be avoided by arriving later in the day or evening.

Pick a seat on the plane that is most convenient for you – Make yourself comfortable on the plane by selecting a seat close to the service crew. Your best attempts to get your child a seat towards the front of the plane may not always be successful. Maintain a consistent distance between them and the crew seats.

Once you sign up for Emirates’ minor traveling alone service – Once you enroll your child in the Emirates’ program for unaccompanied minors, flight attendants will pay regular visits to check in on them. Your child will not be under constant surveillance. While the crew won’t be keeping a continual eye on your unaccompanied kids, they will keep an eye on them and ask if they need anything at regular intervals.

Arrive at the airport early – Get to the airport at least three hours before takeoff to fill out your child’s paperwork.

Advice for Children Traveling Alone with Emirates

You, as the parent or legal guardian of an unaccompanied minor, are required under the Emirates Unaccompanied Minor Policy to inform your child of the following:

Pay attention and ask questions – Listen carefully and inquire like you would before dropping your kid off at school and telling them you won’t be there to supervise them. Therefore, remind your child to stay alert and ask questions if they have any while on an alone excursion.

If something seems off, speak up – Even though this piece of advice is highly unlikely to occur, it is still important to encourage your child to speak out if they notice something is odd. Prepare your children for social settings when they may feel uncomfortable and show them how to speak up themselves. Make sure your child tries to speak out, loudly and frequently if required, to get them out of a dangerous situation. Tell them it’s okay to ask an adult for help if they need it.

Parents should be sure to stay at the gate until their child is in the air – Accidents happen, and there are various situations in which a child finds himself at a gate without a guardian, therefore parents should make sure to wait until their child is airborne. If all goes according to plan, parents will have to stay at the airport until the plane has taken off. In addition, the welcome end guardian needs to be present at the airport terminal until the plane lands.

Concerns about your young child’s safety while flying thousands of feet in the air alone may be put to rest with Emirates’ unaccompanied minor service.
